Religious Studies in Grade 7 focus on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ and the New Testament. I n addition, the 7th Grade will be using Alive In Christ as the main focus for the course. The students are encouraged to grow in their faith through liturgical celebrations, group and individual prayer, daily reflections, scripture, and sacramental preparation. In addition, students participate in a Family Life Program which helps them to develop better communication skills, healthy family relationships and formation in chaste living.
Language Arts
The Grade 7 Language Arts course is a literature-based curriculum in which students read short stories, novels, and poetry focusing on the development and usage of strategies to improve vocabulary and comprehension, with an emphasis on critical and analytical thinking. In addition, students utilize the writing process to compose clear and coherent narrative, persuasive, and informational essays. Standard usage, correct spelling, proper mechanics, and precise wording are taught and evaluated in conjunction with the writing process.
Mathematics
Students in Grade 7 focus on four important areas: (1) understanding and application of proportional relationships; (2) understanding of operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations; (3) solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, and working with two- and three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume; and (4) drawing inferences about populations based on samples. The students continue to enhance their problem solving abilities and evaluation and assessment techniques. Students use technology when appropriate and continue to use calculators, and other mathematical tools.
Science
The seventh grade science course of study is Life Science. Content covered includes cell theory and processes, heredity, evolution, classification, plant structure and processes, animal behavior, and human body organization and structure. Students use these concepts to understand the complexity, diversity, and interconnectedness of life on Earth. Scientific explorations and inquiry- based learning are an essential component of the class. Proper laboratory safety and procedures are emphasized. Students utilize the Chromebooks to access the Science Tech-book provided through Discovery Education.
Social Studies
The 7th grade American History course focuses on the Historical Era of the first “Americans” arriving via the land bridge over the Bering Strait to the Civil War, including but not limited to, its geography, notable individuals and events that helped create the cultural and historical diversity we share today. The class is designed to acquaint students with the major events and movements that influenced our nation’s past. Emphasis is placed on selected topics such as the Age of Exploration, the American Revolution, the Constitution Period, Jacksonian Democracy, Westward Expansion, and Slavery.
Students use Chromebooks and Google Apps. for Education to enhance the learning experience.
