My name is John Hager. I am the Health and Physical Education teacher at Immaculate Conception School. For the past 15 years here in Physical Education our students will perform personal and partner exercises to warm up at the start of the class. They will participate in group challenges and activities to support working along with each other. Classes play in a various amount of games with a lot of different equipment for pleasure, socializing, teamwork, fair play, and good sportsmanship. Students also will have physical fitness challenges such as the mile run and flex arm hang. Each year at the end our school celebrates with a big Field Day with games, rides, food, and music. Our Health classes cover current topics such as vaping, over phone use as well as bodily systems, tobacco, alcohol, drugs, diseases, family life, mental health, and first aid. Students will read articles and textbooks, watch videos, and the class will have discussion and questions to complete on the topics.
The Physical Education Program strives to enhance individual and team skills as well as each student’s level of physical fitness through a variety of age-appropriate sports and activities. Personal responsibility for fitness and individual skill development is encouraged in every student. Health education is incorporated into the program, including such topics as nutrition, CPR, first aid, and drug awareness.
Exercise is very important to include in our daily lives and no matter, what age we are we all should be moving for 60 minutes a day.. With the use of music, gym equipment, space, and planned lessons the students this year again will be getting their heart rate up, strengthening their muscles and bones and have the chance work and cooperate with their classmates..
