The Kindergarten curriculum follows the Common Core Standards for Math, Phonics, Reading Readiness, Writing, Language Arts and Printing/Penmanship.
Religion
Our Religion lessons focus on Jesus as our friend and teacher. Students learn that God will always love them and that He gave them many wonderful gifts. Religion is incorporated into every aspect of our day.
Language Arts
In Language Arts, we use The Wonders Reading Program. Lessons include consonant and short vowel sounds, high frequency words and CVC (consonant/vowel/consonant) words. Long vowels are touched on at the end of year. Also included are sentence writing, rhyming, visual discrimination, and reading of fiction and non-fiction books.
Math
In Math, we use the Progress in Mathematics workbook as well as the Smartboard, manipulatives, and real life scenarios. Our curriculum includes but is not limited to, identifying, counting and using numbers to 31, spatial relations, graphing, measurement, addition/subtraction, and also touches on time and money.
Science & Social Studies
Studies Weekly is used for both Science and Social Studies in kindergarten. In Science, students will observe, explore, and experiment.
In Social Studies, students will learn about the world they live in with rights, responsibilities, jobs, holidays, and celebrations among other topics.
Let's Find Out is also used as a supplemental magazine to support classroom activities.
Specials
Kindergarten students attend music, art, library, computer, and gym each week.
